Diagnosis of pituitary adenoma
Pituitary adenomas are easily diagnosed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Blood tests to measure hormone levels are also carried out at the same time. These blood tests check for two things: which hormones are being produced at excessive levels; and whether normal levels of other hormones are being maintained. If necessary, injections can be used to artificially raise or lower the levels of hormones produced by the pituitary, to clarify whether it is functioning properly.
