Diagnosis of syringomyelia

An MRI scan of the cervical spine is needed, and is sufficient for a correct diagnosis of this disease. A special type of MRI sequence that shows the flow of cerebrospinal fluid on the image is particularly useful. Contrast-enhanced MRI is also required if a possibility of spinal tumor is suspected.
